A Little History
The traditional owners of Macedon and its surrounding regions are the Wurundjeri people. They relied on the land for sustenance, cultural practices, and spiritual significance. They had a deep connection to the natural environment and the area held great importance for ceremonies and gatherings.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of the land where Lawson Lodge now resides and recognise their deep and enduring connection to this land. We are grateful to share their beautiful land with our guests, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.
Historically this land was part of the Lawson family estate, one of this region’s grand & renowned family properties. It was purchased by the Jinks family in 1988, at that time, it was being used for sheep farming.
In 1989, the Canadian-style mountain lodge was built as the family home, now the main Lodge accommodation. From 1989 to 1993, the property was run as one of Australia’s pioneering Deer farms. The current Club House and Conference Centre was once a deer quarantine shed, a striking departure from its current role as a wedding and events venue.
In 1994, the property went through an expansive transformation, converting into a golf course which included planting thousands of trees. Initially operating as a private 9-hole golf course with Club House, and then opening for accommodation in 2002. Between 2002 and 2023 we have continued to improve the facilities, renovating spaces and adding new amenities. With ongoing plans for improvement, we love to surprise repeat guests with new additions.
